Alright guys,

So I'm going to fit my 200TDi to the Series 3, what stuff should I do to it beforehand, while it's sat nicely on the floor?

Can't remember the mileage of it, but it can't be too outrageous otherwise I wouldn't have bought it. As far as I know, head gasket is OK, but is it worth doing anyway, should I get it skimmed, and can I re-use the head bolts on these?

Timing belt, I understand these are non-interference so its not the end of the world if it goes but I take it's worth doing it anyway....

Anything else? And where's the best place to get this stuff from, obviously not britpart but is it worth sticking with genuine LR stuff or is there better? I've heard that some of the pattern headgaskets are better due to not being multilayer steel type and stops oil leaking down the side....

Cheers,

Sam

Belt went on mine a few years back. Had to replace all the pushrods as they were S shaped, so you can end up having to replace pistons if your belt goes and the pushrods dont bend.

Yeah i've just been reading about someone elses pushrods that looked like bananas!

Definitely going for the belt (but probably after I dropped it in so I can undo the bottom pulley!), will probably do the headgasket so I know it's done, just not sure on what other bits and pieces will want doing! Anyone???

no point doing the HG, it's so easy to do even when the engine is in, if it's not broke don't fix it

things you do need to be doing are clutch release bearing, friction plate, crank seal etc - there's a list of everything on here somewhere
