I have a 1975 short wheel base 2.25 diesel. I hadn’t driven it for a while. The clutch seems to be stuck in off. I have tried to loosen the plates by starting it in gear, forwards and in reverse. Having to stall the vehicle to stop it. This worked before when this had happened before, I have now put a stick on the clutch pedal to keep it down to maybe help free it. The rest of the vehicle is in perfect condition and starts fiorst timwe no matter how long its not been started, and I work in Austria in the winter. The vehicle is now in Austria and I need to get the vehicle fixed to bring it back in april. Do you have an idea how to free the clutch, is it a major job to replace or to free the plates. Any ideas will be greatly welcomed.

The farmer who lives next to me reckons that when you get one like that, pump the bellhousing/clutch area full of WD40 through the hole that the slave cylinder rod goes through, start it up with a brick on the clutch pedal and leave it running like that to get really hot .. all day if necessary. He reckons he's done that to tractors that have been standing for 20 years and it's worked every time, and then the WD40 just burns off through use. HOWEVER I've not tried it!

Had similar in cars before, try parking with your bumper up against a tree, put handbrake on, with engine OFF put vehicle in gear, put clutch down and try to turn it over on the starter motor with a fresh battery. If there's enough grunt in the starter motor it might free the clutch - don't give it too much stick though or you'll burn the starter out.

(No liability accepted for consequences of following any advice proffered!)
