Hi all,
I've recently had a "new" V8 fitted to my SIII 109 after the oil pump failed on the last one and I'm trying to identify it from the engine number. I have spent hours looking at all the lists on numerous web pages but the number I see on the engine has a "C" suffix which doesn't seem to be one of the options.
My engine number is in the format 25DxxxxxC which fits perfectly with the information I have that it is from a 1988ish EFi Rangey with an auto box. My problem is the "C" suffix. Looking at all the lists, where there is an optional suffix it is listed as xxxxxA,B,C or xxxxxA/B so if mine fits in the correct place surely the list would show this? It's very difficult to see the actual engine number and the best I can do with the last character is either a "C" or a "6", either way it is definitely not an "A".
I'm wondering if the "C" represents something like it being a factory reconditioned unit but if so I'm surprised that this isn't mentioned on the lists purporting to be "all engine numbers". Any clues?
The first thing I want to do is fit an oil pressure gauge and I need to know if it already has a suitable sender or if I need to fit an aftermarket one. Does anyone know this off the top of their head? I see that on many of the exploded diagrams there is a different setup for engine numbers with a "B" suffix which I'm assuming mine doesn't have a sender suitable for a pressure gauge, only a light. If so, is it possible to swap the existing one for the necessary item?
Sorry, lots of questions and this is only the start, but I'll try to make sure I search thoroughly before wasting your time.
Thanks in advance for any help
Brian
