My TD5 has recently been making a somewhat odd noise when the turbo spools up the first couple of times after starting the truck. By the third or fourth time the turbo spools, it sounds pretty normal again.

My current theory is that the turbo is not fully lubricated initially, which is why the noise goes away so quickly.

I'll try to have a proper look at this at the weekend, but can anyone suggest any particular things to check?

Cheers

Oil pressure. Defo check that, when was the last filter change? also, after a run let it idle a while before switching it off, what does it sound like?

Oil filter is about 1 year and 4k miles old. I'll check what you suggest at the weekend.

I am going all out on this one, and will bet you a can of cold beer your manifold studs are on their way out.

I had a look today, and the joint between the turbo and the oil feed pipe is weeping a little bit of oil, but I can't imagine that is causing the noise. However, I think I'll replace the washers to try and sort the leak out anyway. Is it one washer above and one washer below the bolt that goes through round thing (banjo?) at the end of the oil feed pipe?
