Hi All, I am John from Sheffield and joined as just bought a 2005 D3. Great car loads of power and no leaks.
I have a strange noise when accelerating, it sounds like chafing but when you you come off the gas it stops !!
Have changed oils etc and gearbox plus power is great.
Anyone ?

Manifold blowing maybe. Might help if you said which engine.

But the noise seem to gain speed with the car like a wheel noise. Would the exhaust do that ?

Manifold would go with speed as the revs rise but could be a lot of other things.

Can you hear the noise when revving the engine when stationary or is it only when moving?

No, stationary its fine,
Free wheel its fine, come of gas and its fine but put the slightest and I mean slightes touch on the gas and it starts.
Seems to be more to front N/S but you know sound travels.

Does it alter when steering have you jacked it up and felt for play and span the wheel for bearing noise?

Cant say it changes when stearing and garage has checked bearing and shafts they say they are good.
