My 1989 90 Td CSW is on the fritz. The headlights will not turn off even when I've removed the fuses & the back light behind the speedo etc has failed. The only way I can leave the vehicle when not in use is to disconnect the battery.I have to assume someone has rewired the lights at some stage but wanted to check if anyone had similar problems. Any constructive ideas or assistance gratefully received.

Sounds like a wire has melted somewhere and is touching a live connection somewhere. Try removing the fuses one at a time until the lights go out. That way you'll know which circuit the short is on.

Thanks Redhand, I did think that but I did remove all the fuses one at a time with out success. I appreciate your comment, thanks.

if you removed all the fuses then the fault may lay on the main live supply to the fuse board can you get a look behind the fuse board ???

TubbieScooter, many thanks for your response. I've exhausted my limited vehicle electrical skills today and have now left it with a so called expert. thanks again, BC8810.

I had exactly the same problem, after days of pulling my hair out, it turned out the **** who who had my 90 before me had had an alarm fitted, then consiquently stripped it out leaving the relay disconnected, during driving and normal vibrations the two halves of the connection had made there way back togerther and was shorting out. Stripped out old alarm wiring and relays - problem solved. - Good luck
