Hi guys I’ve got a 2015 2.2 disco sport we tech - just developed a strange noise this weekend - only hearing it idling and can be intermittent - sounds a bit like a vibration coming from the engine - not as noticeable outside but really hear it in the cabin.

it’s done 105,000 miles had new timing belt and water pump 7,000 miles ago…

can’t see anything loose or moving in the engine bay - thinking perhaps auxillary belt tensioner but that’s only from Googling it.

struggling to get a garage to fit in me this side of bank holiday… any thoughts on what it could be? any common faults or things likely to go at this mileage? Thanks everyone.

Manual? If so google DMF
Thanks Lynall - don’t think it fits the symptoms, no vibrations or issues changing gears etc, just a noise. The other thing I’ve been looking into is the crankshaft pulley, don’t know if that’s a common fail on these?

Possibly the alternator overrun pulley has failed. Get a helper to hold the engine at a speed where the noise is most evident, and take a look at the AUX belt. If the belt is clearly running with extra slack, then it's very likely the alternator pulley causing it.

Oh and it's not about to explode, that's the 2.0 that does that. The 2.2 is good for ¼ of a million miles. ;)
