i have been contemplating ways to stop the leaks which continually blight my trips and saturate my backside for days, even after it has stopped raining for a while!
There have been numerous postings on the subject, some as recent as the past week, but most have considered the filling of holes. I have no visible holes (in the defender roof!) and can't find where the water comes from.
The question that I have come to is, if I spray cover the roof with a plasti dip (I think that this is an Irish brand name, which may or may not be available in the UK and further afield), which is readily available in a number of spray can colours, will this do the trick? The product, which I have never seen or used, is described as "an air-drying, speciality, flexible, durable rubber coating". Apparently, it's a synthetic coating whose chemical components sound like they should be both highly toxic and flammable. So no problems and nothing unusual there!
The second potential option is to cover the roof with Vehicle Vinyl Wrap, which should or could have the same effect as the synthetic rubber coating but at a significantly lesser cost.
According to a Dublin supplier the cost for Plasti Dip would be approximately €65, including three cans of colour spray and one Glassify, which is the lacquer gloss finnish. On the other hand, the Vynil Wrap would be approximately €39.
Both products are reportedly DIY application.
