Hi all,

A long story short(ish).

I have a 2004 D2 td5 with digital climate control (may/may not be relevant) which is emitting a horrible musty stink from the air con.

Today I decided to investigate, starting with tweaking my nipples (of the rubber kind under the transmission tunnel) - not a drop of leakage even with a good old rootling with a screwdriver. Even after a good run on full "Lo" they don't drain and the carpets are bone dry.

As the joke of a "pollen filter" has largely disintegrated (new one ordered) I then decided to check for detritus in the fan cage before cleansing the system with foam cleaner and an air con bomb.

On removing the kick panel I was presented with a stray wire with a locking type plug but can't find a socket for it. I'm just wondering if anyone here had any ideas? It looks BCU'ish but it's longer than any other wires to the BCU and could easily reach the blower motor.

My Nanocom isn't reporting any faults on any systems it can check and the climate control appears to function correctly.

I'd just be grateful to know if I need to find a socket to park it in or whether this is a standard loose end?

Many thanks

An update with No's on the plug

Mr Google has pointed towards both climate control and speaker cables.

Having now removed the glovebox I was able to take a couple of iPhone photos to check the fan cage, totally clear so no need to remove it.

It looks like the connector for the powerfold mirror ECU, which is mounted up there (if fitted) with the other ECUs.

If you can list the wire colours, I will be able to confirm what it's for.

Thanks for this Paul, being colour blind you've asked the worst possible information from me lol  I use a process of deduction/elimination for some colours (mainly green/brown and some reds) - although I always call for colour sighted confirmation before wiring anything if I have a slightest doubt ;)

I "believe" my wires are:

Solid/stripe

Yellow
Yellow/red
Orange
Orange/green
Black
Green/white
Blue/black
Brown/grey

I was tempted to give a list of random psychedelic colours!

Hope this makes sense ;):confused::eek::oops:

The powerfold ECU connector has -

Orange
Orange/Red
Blue/Black
Green/Pink
Yellow
Yellow/Red
Brown/Grey
Black

Some of the trace colours can be difficult to determine, especially if you're colour blind ;)

So, it looks as though this is the powerfold mirror ECU connector - C0907

Brilliant Paul, thank you.

I may decide to upgrade to powerfold sometime so this is handy knowledge.

I thought the Green/pink looked an odd white, didn't see pink :p

The Orange/green Orange/red proves my point.

You're a great help, thank you.

As a side note, a can of air con foam down all vents (except rear vents on transmission tunnel) and down the plenum intake plus an air con bomb and she smells bloody lovely today.

The proof will be over the next few days/weeks.

You may also have the powerfold door harnesses.

This can be checked for, by seeing if there's an unused 6-way connector behind the door mirror trim on the inside of the front doors.

Also, there should be a Blue/Black wire in position 5 of the mirror switch connector.
