I cant believe how the prices of old landy engines have risen over the last few years. I was offered a good one for £150 about 4 or 5 years ago and the seller was willing to deliver if for free, although it was only about 30 miles away. I didnt need it and didnt have the space to store it but I wish now Id made space and bought it.

I've got one. One careful owner.

You will not get a decent recon for less than that. Look at the prices on the Turner website, and take note that the prices stated are for engines that have a serviceable block, head, and flywheel, and a crankshaft that can be reground. If those items cannot be reclaimed, the prices rise dramatically.

Any 40+ year old engine that you buy at random is likely to be just as bad as the one you have put in for recon.

Think your right the one in rebuilders needs reboring, new pistons, crankshaft rebore, then they are going to do head and new oil pump, water pump, timing chain and all seals so probably worth what they are quoting.
Just means I will have to buy decent Carb, Alternator ect, starter ect on top.
Still thinking which way to go now, should I just let them go ahead and rebuild it or look for another,

I would just let them do it, and pay the price, then you will have something decent.
The carburettor you have got can probably be reconditioned using a kit costing less than 50 quid. You can do the work yourself if you are careful.
Likewise, the alternator and starter may work, and a new alternator for a Series is only 100 quid, if that, and the starter brushes can be changed, they cost pennies.

Anyone had any engines from this place
/, A1 Reconditioned Land Rover Series 2.25L Petrol Engine (mod-sales.com) A1 Reconditioned Land Rover Series 2.25L Petrol Engine (mod-sales.com)
They can go for really high prices , sen them go from 2500 upwards, But not sure what they will be like,
Says rebuilt to A1 standard but in 1997  they have them on all the time and the seem to sell well, but is it worth taking a chance ?
Well we will soon find out I've Just bought one. Hope I haven't thrown my money away:eek:

Update on new engine is the Dam thing hasn't arrived yet, what a nightmare with pallet deliverers, they assure me it will be with me tomorrow so fingers crossed .
