okay so my accelerator is a stiff pedal anyway, bit like driving an old IVECO at the best of times, but iv noticed now that if i leave the engine on tickover (say in neutral at traffic for over a couple of mins, or engine running in a morning to heat up) then the pedal gets so stiff, its actually really difficult to push down, swapping gears when its like this is very difficult as you cant get the pedal down fast enough to get the amount of revs neaded to get it in, so you kinda judder about getting very sweaty pushing the thing down when changing gears!

kinda makes me think that the pedal being stiff, is not right in the first place now
Any ideas?
200TDi btw

Poss battery earth lead u/s and using the throttle cable as an earth route.
Earths on these are **** as std
Of course could just be a duff cable!, easy to check.

cheers lynall..
might be easy to check, but i don't know where to start, as im still learning with alot of this stuff, any chance of a step by step or something to look for with the earthing point and where is it..
also how do i know its a duff cable?

thanks for the time.

Get someone to press the pedal whilst you watch the engine end, engine doesnt need to be running, release pedal and see if the injector pump linkage returns to its stop.
If not see if the cables kinked, should move effortlessly.
If it doent new cable needed
I think the std earth cable runs from the battery under the seat, along the top of the chassis rail and bolts up right next to the starter motor.
Mine also has another earth cable from the front of the engine down the the right hand chassis rail, you can buy ready made earth cables from halfords etc.
Basically you cannot have to many earth cables!
The cable itself very rarely goes duff, it always the connections themselves, so remove clean and a light coating of grease and refit nice and tight, sometimes you cannot see the corrosion itself until the cable is removed.
