Hi all,
Car is a '97 4.6 HSE.
It has now developed a problem where the ignition lock barrel fails to pop out when the key is withdrawn. This results in the steering lock failing to engage and I get the "key in ignition" message on the display. If I tap the barrel a few times with the tip of the key, it pops out as it should. I have sprayed generous amounts of WD40 into the barrel without the desired results.
Has anyone else had this problem, and how did you fix it?

Cheers,
Henrik

Clean out the barrel by spraying in contact cleaner then blow out with an air line. Do this several times then apply some lock graphite. "Key in ignition" message is because small plastic gate has not dropped. Don't use WD40.

OK, thanks. I'll give it a whirl.

I got 4 cans of the graphite lock lube off Amazon for a tenner. Fantastic stuff!
