Both front door locks on my 1991 Defender stick in the locked position. When this happens the key turns but doesn't release the lock, and the door can't be unlocked from the inside either. What seems to work is holding a hammer under the push button and tapping the top of the button with another hammer - something then releases and the lock works. This is getting to be a pain & if I could be sure which bit to replace I would. Is it the handle with the push button that I need, or is it part of the mechanism inside the door that sticks? Bought a 2nd hand door and its just the same, except I can't get it to release at all, and to make matters worse the striker plate is in the lock, so I can't even get the lock out of the door without cutting the striker away!

I would say it's the mechanism inside, it mite just need a good clean, or something is loose. Take the door card off and have a look see.

I had a similar problem, but mine was the barrels.
