I live in Lidlington and have done this 1.5mile route a few times on 2 wheels, now I have bought a Freelander I plan to have a go with this when I get a chance, it's a nice route and nothing challenging at all, I think starting from the 507 end is the safe option as it is a fast road and joins on a slight bend so I wouldn't want to try and come out onto this road.
If anyone is planning on doing it let me know and I will join you...

Hello Mr. K... its a long time since this thread was active!

We usually do this route from the bottom to the top, then through the gate, turn around and come back down. The lane has been resurfaced in places so the water run has been eliminated but the top is still pretty muddy.

I am not too sure what clearance is like on your vehicle, but the ruts at the top sometimes get quite deep on one side... still I know you've done this on a bike so you probably know all this already.

IMO the best time to drive this lane is just as dusk is falling, since it then you get a decent chance to see some of the night time creatures coming skulking out of their hidey holes - we've seen some really impressive sights driving that lane.

I'll be driving it again as soon as i have had my son check out my rear wheel bearing... it sounds a little suspect!

Cheers

Drove past the 507 end on Sunday and there was a very stuck Disco on the exit, drove past again a few hours later and he was still there, half sliped off the edge into the field, then I came past again a few hrs later and a defender had turned him around.
I thought off roading solo was a bad idea, now I know...
