The alignment of the the steering wheel on my new defender is off by about a quarter of a turn. I wouldn't mind so much but it's obscuring the speedo at the speeds that really matter.

Is it just a case of centering the steering, removing the wheel and reattaching it in the correct alignment?

If it aint got an airbag in it then yes. (Do defenders have Airbags)??? For anyone with an Airbag the easiest course is to loosen the steering column joints in the engine bay and adjust there. Thus saves having to remove the steering wheel.
 
It could indicate that the tracking has been adjusted but done incorrectly. The adjustment on the wheels could be fine but adjusted only on one side. If you want to move the steering wheel i find the most fun way to do it is to loosen the wheel, drive down the road and while still moving, remove the wheel and replace it in the right place. Scares the hell out of people when you wave it at them when driving through the town. :)

If your going to take the wheel off don't undo the retaing nut all the way, you'll only smack yerself in the face if you do.

Not pleasent but it will give all those around at the time a good laugh.
 
Yer can do it by adjusting yer tie rod as well. I've bin half heartedly trying to get mine central fer nearly three years!!!
 
when i brought mine it was a quarter turn off too, took it and got the tracking done, now its perfect!

How "firmly" is the wheel supposed to be attached to the shaft? I've undone the nut but can't get the wheel to budge. I've tried a little WD40 to loosen things a little and tried getting some leverage behind the wheel but no luck so far. Perhaps I'm just a wimp?
 
Put the nut back on loosely (to save you from a bloody nose) pull like feck on the wheel, whilst an assistant wiggles the wheel using a length of 2 by 2 timber through the spokes.
Be patient, it will pop eventually.

So I go back out armed with the biggest hammer I can get my hands on and after a few turns of the nut the wheel comes off in my hands. I guess I just had to be more patient with the WD40. Thanks for all the help from everyone.

Mine was a right bitch to get off, I had my feet up on the dash and was pulling like a bastard until it flew off and got me square in the face.

Much to the merriment of all those around me.

It's all getting a bit bizzare over there at the moment. They need an anything goes so people let it all out.
 
It seems to have been hijacked by rightwing dailymail readers. Did you see the oldtrouts rant about children been parasites and a drain on the earths resources. Probably wrote it just before she jetted off on some foreign holiday.
 
Yep saw here's and Maggies responses.

Decided I'm going to ignor much of the stuff in the general forums if it has anything to do with kids, religion, politics or immigration as it just gets to be a waste of time getting involved.

At least here if someones being a ****wit you can tell them
