Greetings

I'm a newbie (so put that snap-on spanner down :)).

I have a Def90 '93 Pickup (140k) and I hope someone will have some gems on two problems I am having. Maybe they are related.

1. The "Swamp Donkey" has started feeling like both axles are loose over small bumps hit at speed. Big gentle bumps = not a peep. On small ones tho, it feels as if something is half a second behind the rest of the vehicle and I get that clunk as it catches up. I thought I was paranoid and this was "apparently" confirmed by 2 separate LR mechanics. "Rides just like an ol' Lanny" they say.
Well sorry but it was never like that 6 months ago so something is wrong.

Since, I have replaced the steering damper, shocks all round, front bushes, new rear A-frame ball joint, checked every nut and bolt, new exhaust, new tyres and balancing, checked engine and gearbox mounts and nothing seems wrong....

...which takes me on to point 2...

2. Since the above work, I now have severe steering shake on bends at 50mph. I am losing steering power in puddles for about 5 seconds but I am sure that this was in place before all the work was done.

You guys got any ideas? Any thoughts would be great.

Cheers
Dixie

Is the loss of steering power and puddles bit 'cos the belts getting wet and slipping?

NOoo make sure it's so tight you can play a tune on it, think the play is 9mm or 3/8" depending on how old you are.

Nice, thanks Grunt.
No that note, I have never worked it out. Are '93 Landies metric or imperial. I have metrinch spanners which do most on a good day. Most...

Dunno about the 93 one, mines 89 and has a mixture but mainly metric the imperial ones that spring to mind are the propshaft nuts 9/16AF.
