Quick question: i've got a loose ball joint on my steering rods. its on the long rod that connects from the shaft going through the chasis at the RHS to the LHS wheel. not the rod that connects the two wheels together. what is this rod called?
is it:

a) a track rod
b) a drag link
c) streeing hingimy
d) or sumut else........

i'm needin to order some new bits, probably a hole rod and both joints at each end as is just one rusty lump, but my crap descriptions of the "steering hingimy rod" are only goin to end me up with a load of bits that dont fit!!!

cheers for any help!

I thought the track rod joined the hubs together and the drag link joined the LH hub to the steering box. Any how if it's the same as the later models all the ball joints are the same.

yu are most likely rite, Grunt - but I got lh and rh ball joints fur the front rod and they work fine;)

ah see, there's too many different names fur all the steerin rods!! found one with the right name on paddock's website but if i search for the same part code on craddock's it describes a different rod! burger..........

reet then
i just got both ends fur the front rod on my series 3 -----

Paddocks p/n's strrtc5867G - rh
strrtc5868G - lh

Doobie.......assuming your not in the 'Broch', get over to Kirkstyle in Kemnay (Independant land Rover) speak to graham the mechanic, good chance they have the right bits in stock, will save you filling your shed with wrong parts. I've found them cheaper than the mail order route and they will throw in good practical advice on correct fitting for free.

Kinnellers yer reet I wuz fergetting about the LH thread one on the track rod. OOOOPS ah well nivver mind I'm ovver it now.

That's to make it a great big long bottle screw, so if you unlock both ends, then rotate the rod between them the balljoints move apart or closer together depending on whatever ....

Isn't it?

Nope - not on the Series - coz the brilliant design has a steering damper attached to the front cross link - so yu cant turn it!
