Hi all,

Currently rebuilding my 1980 SIII 2.25p.

just about ready to put the front axle back on and I’m curious. Do I need a steering damper? What’s the primary benefit.

the vehicle is mainly used on road, with the occasional ‘easy’ green lanes.

I use mine same as yours , I took the damper off when mot man said steering was stiff, it’s meant to stop steerin* wheel spinning fast off road if you hit a hole etc

Not fitted to series landy's in most cases

I don’t have one fitted to mine and to my knowledge it has never had one. Does not cause any issues.

You've already got one in the 'relay' in the front cross member. Definitely no need for another in any of the driving I've done.
