You're much more likely to find a petrol Lister than anything diesel or steam.

Lister d series are cheap enough, Had one years ago at 14 and replaced the head Gasket on it, neighbours hated it

A local guy had a couple of small engines and a water pump for sale recently but they needed work. I dont know if he still has them. Scottish Borders, maybe too far away, would need a trailer. I can PM his e-mail address if you want.

My Grandad had one running a sawbench for donkey's years.
Bastid thing would break yer wrist if it kicked back when yer was crankin it.

Gosh, had a quick swatch at Ebay and found an ex showmans live steam engine for resto...£70,000. Bargain.

try farm auctions. we go to them all within a 50 miles of me. we have had loads through our shop in the past two years.

A guy I used to work with used to power his saw bench using a peugeot 205 diesel which had a front wheel jacked off he ground and had the belt around it. He used to chuck it in gear and let it just tick over.:D:D:D

I've got an ancient Briggs and Stratton one - got it when i was v. little, started it up, it all went bang, snapped con rod, killed piston, etc.

So stripped it then realised the only place i could get a piston and rings from was America at 3 x the price of the engine.

It's sat ever since. I keep thinking one day i'll get a piston and finish it. It's only been waiting 15 years so far
