As title. starts first turn, ticks over a tad high at 1k, but after its driven a few miles the revs on idle are about 2k. its a 3.9 v8 on petrol and gas. It does the same on either. I have searched and searched but to no exact match of the problem. ive had a look at the vacuum hoses and all seems ok apart from one that comes from the fuel regulator, where does that go, its about a foot long and has a tpiece on the end of it. i cant find a place for it anywhere unless the pin it fits on has fell off!! Also i , one thing i did try was to take of the breather piupe that runs across the top of the engine from the left hand cover to the plenum and this did help but it doesnt seel blocked. where is the crankcase breather. help please:confused:

The short length of hose from the fuel regulator goes to a small nipple on the rear of the plenum chamber.
The chankcase breather is on top of the left rocker cover with a hose over the the r/h side of the plenum chamber and into a T piece (black).
Cruise control also has a T piece (white).

Thanks for that, don't allthat and all ok. Removed the stepper thingy, cleant it and replaced. Started and ran for ten minutes and seemed ok. Took it for a drive and idle really high as before. Is it worth changing the stepper thingy.how does it work? Could it be the timing being a tad out?

This link will tell u all about the idle control valve (stepper motor), u could replace it, also it maybe a good idear to reset your base idle, your timing could be out if the dizzy has been interfered with.
Fuel injection

Timing out won't give you a 2000rpm idle. Most likely to be idle control valve or maf. Un plug the idle control when its warm and see how it runs then.

2000 rpm idle sounds like an air leak to me. I remember reading somewhere if you remove the stepper and fire it up it will idle at 2000rpm.

My idle control valve was on its way out, when it was at normal running temperature with it unplugged it would idle better. If you don't run one at all you can just set the base idle to 900rpm

changed stepper motor, no difference, unplugged maf and car still ran the same, is that right. Shouldn'd it conk out or what??. please help:)
