Hi
Apologies but it’s another starting issue post.

My 2002, 180k has been having trouble starting in recent months.
  • The starter/solenoid clicks but no engine turnover at all.
  • When jumped from another car it starts immediately, no hesitation.
  • I keep the battery on permanent charge which did work but this no longer helps.
  • With engine off there is 12v across the battery, engine on there is 14v.
I think the battery (about 3 years old) is on its way out, what do you think, please?

Many thanks

You must have the most reliable Land Rover ever. 9 years since your only other post!

Definitely looks like a problem with the battery, or the leads' connections to it.

Do you have another battery you can put on it to make sure it is before splashing out on another?

It'll be the battery or the starter solenoid contactor or both. The starter contactor set only lasts for 10 years or so, depending on how many starts it's had to perform in that time.
The contactor set is about ¼ the cost of a decent battery, so I'd start there first.

Changed my starter solenoid contactor at the weekend due to intermittent starting which got progressively worse.
Mine has 150k on it and the contacts were almost worn away to nothing.

Fairly easy to do....once you get the starter out which at first doesn't look possible but it will come out without disconnecting any hoses.
Goes back in easier than it comes out.
