hello i own a freelander 2ltr l series.
the latest problem is starting.
when turning the key all lights are on as normal, but nothing is happening with the starter. i can keep turning the key on and off on and off for a few mins and suddenly it starts. the time for turning the key varies.
i have checked the starter motor and solenoid they are ok. i tested the low tension cable that switches the solenoid and there is only an intermittent voltage there, so i went further back to the starter relay. i took the relay out and fired it manually and the operation was fine. the main permanent live was fine onto the relay and the switched live from the ignition was live every time the key was turned. this points to the central controll unit to me. does that seem reasonable to anyone here??? also if it is that do i need a degree in computing to sort it or is it a new part from the robbing b*stards at the main dealer.
sorry to waffle on but the more info i give the more likelly someone will know...( i hope)

thanks alot fellas (or gals too)

but i have checked the starter motor and solenoid and they are ok....

i am almost certain it is a immobiliser problem has anyone suffered the same??

3 possible easy fixes

1)change the battery in your fob.
2) take your keys off the bunch and keep em seperate cos other keys like to interfere with the signal
3) Try holding your fob to the end of the ignition barrel when turning the key

my wifes 99 l serise did same thing and that was a relay to do with the alarm system
