Hello all

I have a rover Sd1 3.5 v8 in my wee series 3 . I take it that it is just the same as any other of the landrover 3.5 v8 ones ? .it is just the landrover ones are like half the price of the supposed sd1 motor.

Help would be grateful

Thanks

the sd1 is a high compression version of the engine, so might make a differance with the starter motor

I bought a new britpart starter a while back for around £100 and it has been superb.

You'd have to check part numbers mate to see if they were the same for different compressions.

An SD1 starter is different in its physical build. The starter solonoid is mounted underneath the starter and usually gets wiped off by the propshaft if installed on a series on a poor conversion. RRC has the solonoid on one side and gives you clearance.

Likewise the oil filter if left std gets clubed by the axle on full compression like landing hard. If these are not sorted then the conversion should be considered poor IMO.

will take pics tomorrow of the starter motors I have both types here I am removing an SD1 one for the reason above to fit a RRC one in its place.

While on the case of Starter Motors

Wasn't there 2 types available early and late large and small type?

yes the later small one is about half the size and wight of the early one but if your running a dizzy it has no cranking feed for the coil so you need to run and ign live to coil so it has power while cranking
