Ok, I replaces the starter solonoid on the starter of my old 3.5 in my lightweight as it was spinning but not throwing, put it all back and I get nothing on the key  not even a click.

so I put the main batt cable, the big brown one and the yellow one to the alternator back on 1 stud and the little short one to the starter body from the other stud. Is this correct?

the other worry was that I get my dash lights and the fuel pump starts as previously, but I cannot get any of my lights to work

Is it possible that I have orientated the 2 studs of the solonoid the wrong way around? or have I burnt out a cable somewhere?

just looking for ideas to get me started. its too dark in my garage to do anything now. typical.

I would double check to make sure you've not left any wires off, sounds like you could have
then check you've got the little wire on the correct terminal, one of them is for the ballast resistor. If you still have no joy short the main live on the solenoid to the little terminal on the solenoid with a screwdriver( make sure it's not in gear ) if it turns over then you've got a wiring problem
if you've got the solenoid on the right way the little terminals should be facing away from the starter body

right... well I just been out to take it off as I think I put the solenoid on the wrong way (didn't think it would make any difference) when I removed it, a little fluid ran out and it smelt burnt :( the plunger bit (bendix?) had fused itself to the main body of the solenoid! not sure if I have fooked a new solenoid now, balls.

can anyone say outright if the terminals have to be the correct way around? all the wires were on, and as far as I know, correct.
