Hi All, just getting geared up to change my starter on a Defender converted to 200tdi disco
Looks tricky will it come out underneath? Could someone just run me through it,...Many Thanks

On mine I had to remove the engine mount and the downpipe and it came out from below.
The question has been asked before on here and some didn't need to remove the mount, mine was so close to coming out it was ridiculous but just wouldn't without mount removal.
When I said mount I mean the rubber which enabled me to pry the engine over 10mm so the starter cleared.

Recently had mine done, got a mobile mechanic to do it after it just decided to give up one morning. Glad he did it, it was a proper pig! After a couple of failed attempts it ended up coming out from above with the turbo exhaust pipe removed ( be prepared for a snapped/seized nut, so get the penetrating fluid on now! ). I can’t remember what else was done, but it definitely didn’t drop out from underneath ( differs from vehicle to vehicle ).

I took down pipe off, dipstick tube off, and removed the washer bottle and all that ****e on the wing and I managed to get mine out upwards.

I didn’t have to take the manifold off, just the downpipe

Mine is a defender 200tdi though
