Hello:

'96 LR Disco I, 4.0L, Auto, NAS, "Lucas"

I had a solenoid issue. Rather then rebuild (over 125,000 US mi.), I
purchased a NEW "Mean Green Starter." The vehicle started wonderfully for 2
days. Now nothing. I turn the key to start and I get a screeching sound. Not
good. Engine will not turn over.

Any suggestions?

Thanks in advance. I'll monitor the group. My email is a dead link.

It sounds like the drive unit has failed, but it's impossible to be
sure from here.

As crazy as it seems I went out today 0630 EST [1130 GMT] and it started. Go

It definitely sounds like a slipping one way clutch in the pinion - they
normally fail on an intermittent basis.

If it's a recon unit (or new) you need to be complaining to the supplier.
Unfortunately, that means getting it off again - if they're reasonable
they'll let you have one to swap and bring the dud one back.

after i replaced my starter it stopped working properly after a couple
of days and became intermittent.
In the case of mine there is a solid metal bar that acts as a wire and
takes the power from the connector to where it is required in the
starer. It is only about an inch long with a 90 degree bend in. It had
cracked.
My replacement cracked too so i had to make up a very small flexy
cable which is still going strong. Their stock must be made out of
crappy metal.

I presume your earth is alright too?
