Well I think the time has come to look at changing the suspension, as i have about an inch space on the drivers side (between the tyre and the wheel arch) and about 2 inches on the passenger side, so reckon its past its best. Will post up pics once its light again..

I do off road, but more road driving than off, so don't think I need to go to the lengths of lifting and everything else that goes with lifting (especially given how capable they are standard), so has anyone got any suggestions on a standard height suspension setup as most of the thread is about 'lifting'? Also how hard is it to change on your own, any special tools required?

My Bilsteins (yellow) made an incredible difference to my ride, fitted em on a few of my vehicles now and loved em every time. They do a cheaper standard (black) damper also.

That and a set of new LR standard springs (or police spec?) should see you nicely.
 
Cheers guys, does anyone know how much space there should be between the wheel and arch....have bfg a/t on at present 265/70/16......am guessing more than an inch...:eek:

i think everyone will be different due to worn/new parts combination and weight of after market parts
 
Just have.A full wrap around bull bar on the front. Was just curious to know if the standard suspension will give me a 'lift'
 
well Ive got 235 70 16 BFG ATs and have about 3" gap on the front and 4" on the rear between top of tyre and arch., Ive only changed the shocks. Im going to change the springs which I suspect are the originals and would expect it to then sit a little higher but keep running out of money.

+1 for the yellow bilstien shockers fitted em on mine made a hell of a difference to the ride quality little bit on the pricey side but if your sticking to standard height they are worth their weight in gold!
 
Pro comp +1 shocks all round and bearmach standard height hd springs.

But when this landy stops being my daily driver I will lift it +2 with all the extras that are needed for that
 
So do you think will just need to replace the springs for now, as is there an easy tell tale that you need to change the shocks?
 
rock the vehicle .if shocks are working correctly it should damp the bounce when you let go ,std springs will lift a bit if old springs are worn ,personaly i prefer h/d std height for road handling,put vehicle jack used between axle and chassis helps when removing/refitting springs ,if bottom nut comes undone on front shockers they can be pushed up enough with the help of jack pushing axle down to change springs without removing turret

Just rocked it and stops pretty much straight away with no 'bouncyness' so will go for some springs first and see how I get on, thanks again for your input guys

The back doesn't seem too bad, its the front that is riding low.

I think I am going down the route of Bearmarch Heavy Duty standard height springs, and see how it rides on them before looking at new shocks

Hopefully I should gain a few inches height on the front just by fitting new standard height springs ;)

Prices wise looking around £130.00 mark, but still looking for a better deal. Will let you know when I find the ones I am ordering.
 
OOH, I have been thinking the same thing, though I have not the same level of droop (yet).

Will be keeping an eye on this thread. My reasoning is as the car is now 14 years old and approaching 100,000 miles then gravity at least must have has some effect on the springs so possibly requiring replacement.
 
Have been making a few calls, and its amazing the difference of opinions from the places I have rang.

Some think Britpart are the best given its standard height, then others wouldn't touch them with a barge pole, and told me Bearmach are the class leaders....

So price wise:-

Bearmachs Blue Heavy Duty Standard ride height are coming in at £117.90 delivered.

Britpart Yellow Heavy Duty Standard ride height are coming in at £98.00 delivered.

Still got a few calls to make before deciding what to go for....
 
I think that is what I am steering towards getting, given the views on here, and from other people I have talked to, and there isn't that much difference in price either,
 
ive fitted a good lot of sets of the yellow hd springs ,and allways found then good including my own vehicle which had them for 3-4 years and a farmer that shifts heavy loads around the country with 3 defenders fitted with them one of them for a good few years hence wanting others fitted ,dont know wether its bp bad name in some bits, that tar good stuff they do ,or wether ive been very lucky over time
