*Steering sorry*

hello , another issue needing help with...

right, i think and hope this will only be the tracking but am not sure..

say i turn the wheels left to full lock , the wheel rubs on this metal bar , its been like this since i got the disco , but i want it sorting today , so i can go the garage and say do this , so they dont have me off saying i need a new steering rack ect..

so maybee the tracking has been done b4 and they have gone to far on one side ? ? maybee ?? also when i am turning the steering wheel in general , i get a noise from the steering system and it comes right up through the steering wheel, more like a vibration when moving the wheel hmm ??

any idears. and thanks for any help.

my head would be ****ted without this website and the people on it that always help me.

thank you. xx

the noise/vinration when moving the steering wheel is either your steering damper or the power steering fluid(lack of or old and dirty). check your steering fluid first to make sure it isfull. then check the damper for play.it could even be the steering pump. i dont think the rubbing is linked to this from what you say. have you got standard wheels and tyres or are they aftermarket?

standard wheels and tires mate.

ye the rubbing is not linked to this i no this for deffinate.

cheers yella fella ;) ile get on that right now an see !!

Sound like the tyres are rubbing on the radius arms at full lock.
put the axle on stands and have a look. to stop this just turn the steering lock screw on the opposing side. (in front of the swivel housing) give a clearence of about 20mm.
this wont cause the noise/vibration you mention, unless your feeling the vibration from the tyre rubbing on the arm.
out of intrest what size are ya tyres !

easy fix mate.....

if it was the hub surely you'ed feel the steering wobble a bit under normal driving conditions.
