My SRS warning light has just come on and stayed on, on my 2001 TD5 ES. I had a quick butchers in the owners book and it says to contact dealer IMMEDIATELY. Not wanting to sound sceptical, but the "book" tells you to seek advise from dealer for the smallest of problems and I'm sure its just a ploy to get you to get up the local LR stealer to get ripped off.
However, I am wondering if this is something that can be easily rectified or should I be worried and prepare myself to be rogered by the LR stealer.
Any advise appreciated.
Ta, Paul

Could be afew things:

Either an fualt with the airbag/s itself, or the sensors, or the rest of the unit (THE EXPLODING BIT!!)
Or
Theres a broken crossed wire (but this not likely but its easiet)
Or
It's service time! i.e. land rover setting it to go off at a certain milage and/or age to get you to come in for them to turn it off under the pretence of "service"

Either risk taking it to a stealer........ yah i meant that.........

or a specialist who would turn it off for pennies, best to do that so if there is a fault thy'll find it
or get a plug in diagnostic kit for the ecu to turn it off.

i'd go for the specialist one personally

Yeah youre probably right that its due a service. Just coming upto 72k so I'll get in touch with my nearest independant TJC and get a service done. Still costs a national debt but cheaper than a main dealer and the service book is still valid.

SRS light will come on if you move the frount passenger seat too much, or if it has'nt been moved for a while. the reason for this is because the module is under the seat and does'nt like movement. Try unplugging the yellow connector, and reconnect - This will get rid of the dash light, if not its a dealer fix as its the air bags fault.

That sounds interesting, she used the car earlier this week and the seat always gets pushed right the way forward. I'll try the yellow plug thing. Thanks, Paul.

Had same problem but also horn, radio controls and cruise controls not working. Found to be cassette round steering wheel what passes all info from wheel to car was shot, £176 lighter and new one fitted. Might not be your problem but may help someone.

   Better get me arse out there and check the yellow plug under the seat:eek:

Tried unplugging the yellow plug (the one that seems to be a relay) but it made no difference. Hoping there may be more than one possible plug under the seat. I did find what looked like the female part of a small round plug with nowt attached.
Hoping it aint summit serious but I can feel a rogering rapidly approaching:eek:

HI there. i am posting way to much a feel for a newbie. however i couldnt resist this :)

I had this problem ( along with most others) and found it to be a problem down by the drivers side wing inside you will see a black plastic wrapping around the loom it is bent very tight around here its sort of the dashboard side of the shock halfway down. it is very tight turn and quite sharp on the body work and it tends to cut through and short out. often, the bag comes on and then if you switch off it resets and then comes back on if you go over a bump. anyhow doesnt cost to have a look. I just put a bit of rubber hose round mine and it fixed it.

Thanks Graham, everything is worth checking out, I'll have a look at that too.

Hi

Did you get anywhere with this light problem??? Cos I'm in this club now too!!!

Well Fred, I tried the yellow plug thing, it worked for a while then does it intermittently. I havent looked at the wing thing yet but what I did notice is that if I open the glove box then slam it, the light comes on so thats got to be something to do with it.
I have eventually got round to putting the car in for service today so will see if that makes a difference, if not I will definately start to look at the wiring under the wing that was described earlier.
Good luck
Paul

Ok cool,,, Im gonna go and open and close the glovebox a few times!!! lol,,,
Which Disco have you got? cos Ive looked under both of the seats and I cant find ANY plugs at all. Mines a 94 v8 ES.

Cheers!

Ok,,, Ill have a butchers later... Im sure I cant see anything tho,,, Maybe they're in a diff place on the later models?

Sorry to intervien guys! Yellow connectors under seats only disconnect and reconnect with ignition off!! Trust me you dont want anything goin pop! Servicing the car will do nowt for yer airbags. With opening and closing the glove box it sounds to me like a loose connection at passenger airbag if this is the case it will put the light out when you cycle the ignition as the airbag system does a system check when you put the ignition on and if it senses high resistance it puts yer light on. I suggest (if you feel confident) removing the n/s airbag and check the connector BUT DO NOT HAVE THE IGNITION ON!!! when you do this. And if all else fails sell the disco and get an older defender you know it makes sense

I had this problem with the light going on when glovebox, or sometimes bonnet, opened. Dealer said it needed new airbag. Independant guy fixed loose connection behind glovebox. It's very probably a loose wire in that area.
