My 2000 p38 4.6 with LPG started to make this noise a month ago, I was busy with another noise and solved it, now will be glad to hear your opinions. I guessed the cabin temperature sensor fan, but cleaning, lubing did not help. Also it sounds like coming from the left side. It starts 30 seconds after starting from cold, lasts a couple seconds and goes away as in the video. It does not come back while driving or using the hevac system at different speeds, until the next cold start. It is the noise at the end of the video:

Ideas?

Today before starting her I turned the blower to maximum level, and the noise was shorter than before. So I guess it is coming from the left blower motor. How can I access it, is there an easy way, or the dash is coming out for the second time?

Brake bleeding and the dash, two jobs I hate about the P38!!!

Think you can get the blower out without removing the dash. Fiddly but do able.

I am searching for it. I changed the blend servos last year, It was an expensive & difficult job to do..

To be honest, if it is coming from another component and I discover this after tearing the dash down, I will burn her!!!

It only takes a few minutes to drop the glove box. All is then revealed.

Great solution :D

I am now sure it is not coming from the cabin temp. sensor (blocked it with a paper clip), and the noise lasts shorter if I turn the blower to max level, so I need that dwarf now!

Turn the blowers down to zero and see what happens when you fire it up. Or, pull the relays.

Hi Will,
Yes mate, with mine the n/s blower was shagged, changed it for one you sent and problem solved, no more book symbol on Hevac.
Havn't been up to the Midlands for ages but see Wyn quite regular. We went to the Isle of Man for the TT again this year and Belgium for the Classic TT.
I still intend to drop in on you when i'm up there.
Best wishes.......Tony.

I do not have a book symbol, rebuilt the blowers and changed the blend servos (with brand new ones) only 6 months ago. Thanks for your ideas, today I will try harder to find the source, will update asap.

BTW did your blower motor sound like in the video I recorded?

Thank you for all your effort and time, found the problem after tearing down everything, ecu cooler fan. And the part shop wanted 130£ for it!!! Cleaning, kicking, hitting with a bat stopped the noise for now, looking for a used one..

Just open up the motor and lube the bearings.

BTW it is the same fan with the one BMW E39 uses, and the Bosch part number is 0130002830. I used wd40, seems ok..
