Hi all p38 2.5td 96 after fixing two other things, exhaust and gearbox oil cooler pipes she has decided to give me something else to fix. Chain of events as follows, set off with family yesterday and after about 5 mile I started to get a vibration when accelerating. Got to where we were going and had to go up rather a steep hill, that's when the squealing started. It seems to be more pronounced when turning right or going uphill and seems to start when revs hit about 1850 rpm Have done a search but no one seems to have same problem apart from vibration under load which seems to be pinpointed to uj's. I went underneath and gave it a good prod and poke and found a bit of play in rear uj on front prop but nothing major. Any other suggestions on what to check greatly received. Many thanks in advance
Steve

Check, the crank pulley damper, you will get vibration ifmib starts to breakup. Check the power steering drive belt tension as well.

Hi thanks for reply but checked belt and pulley as well as turbo. It does sound as if it's some sort of bearing but doesn't do it when parked and review engine only when moving. Checked front wheel bearings to see if there was any movement but no they are ok. Not sticking calipers either. In fact checked all usual culprits. Got me stumped. Just hope it not coming from the auto gearbox but without strapping myself underneath and getting misses to drive round I can't seem to pinpoint were it's coming from apart from more pronounced drivers side front.

Ok found the problem. After checking out all possible causes I decided to take the front wheels off and check out the calipers, so took passenger side off first and whilst checking the caliper I noticed brown redish dust around the hub. Took it in bit and found that the bearing had become dry but no play in it. Replaced and checked other side and squeal and vibrations gone.:D:D

Replaced the uj's on the front prop today just to be on the safe side as well. MOT tomorrow fingers crossed
