Spot the new member in 'fix it' mode...

So, speedo cable had pulled out of the back of the speedo - an easy fix I thought! No so, it now works but reads about 20mph fast - even from slow speeds. So it pretty much immediately jumps to 25-30 mph when starting off and then stays well ahead of the actual speed.

The landie is has 172 miles on the clock - it has just been round the clock - so now would be a reasonable time to change it but they are v.expensive new so I would prefer to fix this or perhaps fit a used one.

Before I buy one, has anyone come across this problem. Presumably it's a simple matter of gearing inside?

Or...maybe it's just really fast....

cable connection is probably worn, think there might be a fix for it but I can't remember what it is, might show up in a search of old threads

Perhaps try a new speedo cable? I am no expert but it's a fairly inexpensive part so could be worth a try.

Thanks Chaps. The cable is supposed to be new. It seems to spin freely (I've driven with the end of the cable sticking out of the side of the instrument bezel). It also seated well into the back of the speedo. I'm thinking internal issue..

X1 it's a worn cable not expensive or difficult to replace. The short one is very expensive but in this case not relevant .

Thanks Blackburn. Will probably pull it to pieces at some point!

Hope you all had a great Xmas.
