Problem;

265-75-16 spare wheel

1) was going to throw it onto the back door.....until 80% of people say it knackeres it (it's ropey already)

2) swing away holder...seem expensive and the cheap ones are crap and tbh the truck is that bashed a nice shiney swing away will look odd

3) bonnet...not really an option for me

That leaves the rear bulkhead, plus it's out the way when off-roading. Question:

* how did you guys and gals (that have) secure the wheel to the bulkhead? Eyes bolts and ratchet straps?

I'd still put a swing away carrier on it, it won't look out of place because the spare will cover it and it will mean your spare won't be getting in the way

Had the same question some time ago.

Took the risk and went with a cheap Paddock spare wheel carrier.
Turns out it was quite OK and only needed an extra coat of paint, just to be safe (paint on Paddock stuff is universally horrible).

I'm quite happy with it, it's one of those things that should come stock

Fair play, I'm gonna have a look on paddocks site. As the interior space is handy. I thought about making a false floor and putting it under with my tool box etc. but again the load area goes

What's up with using the bonnet? Mine is bonnet mounted and I've no problems whatsoever with having it there

yeah bonnet mount is cool, just take it off if your doing anything more than just checking the oil

+1 for bonnet mounted. Looks brilliant and doesn't take up space or put strain on anything other than a bonnet stay when its open.

I recently fitted mine to my bonnett, taking it off the rear door of my 110CSW.

Loads of people told me not to because it blocks your view. It does a few feet in front but if anything is in that space then I only have myself to blame if I hit it for being too close.

That said I also raised my seats by an inch and a half, by making myself some seat raisers at a cost of £6 for both front seats.

Raising the seat did two things, I can see over the wheel better and being nearly six feet tall it gives me better leg room and driving posture.

The bonnett mount came from paddocks and is brilliant. It does make the bonnett heavy to open, but you get used to that. The only other thing I did was add a second bonnett support stay for when I need it proped open.

I did have some one tell me that bonnett mounting is no longer legal, I can't see that being true as I would have been pulled over by now, the police here are hot on illegal cars.

how would it be illegal? as long as its securely fixed its got to be ok?

How did you do your seat raisers? I was planning on trying to make some from some box section

Doubt it is as I've been stopped and had a chat with the traffic cops and they never once mentioned it. Plus its passed mots fine

You will probably find its illegal on vehicles built after a certain date hence the reason you never see td5s with them
