Another snorkel thread to add to all the others (sorry). This will probably be deemed as a mad thing to do, but it is the route I took to installing a snorkel on my D1 300tdi Jap import: We are off to morocco in November so I am using this as my excuse to fit a snorkel. I am not keen on the look of the safari one, but do like the look of the Southdown. I also want to fit a second battery in the space available in front of the air filter, and was not prepared to compromise on that. This meant that the Southdown could not be connected to the front of the air box as usual. I wanted to keep the 300tdi air box, therefor opted to combined 2 snorkels, but to keep costs down, bought a cheap imitation Safari snorkel off eBay and an un-finished Southdown also from eBay. The utilised bits from the safari is all the parts that fix to the air box with a side exit. The southdown flexi pipe then connects to the safari side exit pipe. I didn't need to remove the wing or the plastic inner wheel arch to fit the snorkel. The stainless Southdown pipe and brackets were then finished off with some black powder coat vinyl wrap also from eBay. So there you have it, not the cheapest way to fit a snorkel (but also not extremely expensive in my mind) and I know some people make their own, but it ticked all the boxes for me.
