Hi there, If i were to generalise It appears to me there seems to be at least 2 very different types of disco owner on this forum, 1:the my landys never seen mud, its all chrome and blacked out windows, and 2: I keep dead sheep in the back, the tattier the better, MUD MUD MUD!

Now I believe the discovery was originally designed to bridge that gap between the "wot wot wot" and "yee ha!" types so i just wondered what you guys used yours for?

To be honest mines more a family wagon, It does more trips to tescos than the moors but at the same time I dont mind it gettin all ****ty and chucking logs in the back, then later in the day cleaning her up, turning on the air con and chuckin the kids in the back, I LOVE offroading but as its our only motor and we live out the way i have to be careful not to break her. The main reason i got it was for the 7 seats (no way im havin a people carrier) but it is by far my favourite most versatile and most of all FUN vehicle ive ever owned.

In an ideal world if i could I would have a Supercharged rangerover sport for posing and for offroading it would have to be a brand new V8 Defender but unfortunately im not that rich so for now i'll very happilly stick with mi Disco, good all rounder!

so there.:)

Ive got a 1997 P reg 2.5 tgi which gets used for logging with a trailer on the back cant get enough logs in the back with all the saws.taking the kids to school etc etc just about everything realy.

I only use my disco for offroading/green lanning.

It's parked outside all the time, only moves to go lanning or if I need to carry something big that wont fit in the bimmer.

Wash? only when it rains.
The only thing I wash everytime I go playing in the mud is underneath, chassi/suspension/axles, etc, and engine bay.
the rest is permantly covered in mud, helps to protect on those narrow lanes..

Towing a caravan most weekends, green-laning most weekends when we've got the caravan where we're staying, and off-roading occasionally.

... and anything in between!

It's rarely cleaned (Caravan Club sites just luuurve me!!) except the engine bay and running gear, but is looked after very well otherwise. It looks rough, way rougher than it actually is, and I rarely get problems with people either trying to nick it or parking too close at supermarkets/carparls.

The following pic was taken just as I wrote this ...

We have 2 Commercials (one sign written and one abouts to be sign written) mainly used as everyday cars but the main reason for it been a Landy is the image it gives and the ability to have 7 seats.

Mine is spotless and tidy.
My Brothers is like a skip with fag ash and boxes all over.

Neither have been used off road as we dont want to mess the sign writing up, or scrach the paint work!

We have another V8 that is for sale and ran out of tax so not been used. Which also never went off road.

We have another commercial that was used on a farm and not on road, it had sheep **** in the back and castration bands on the indicator stalk! It is an off roading dream. Still got Tax and Test.

We may get chance to take it Green Lanning if we ever work out the criptic clues to join the club! Seem to be a hidden underground taboo.

Mine is my everyday drive. Apart from getting me to and from work it also spends a fair bit of it's time towing my 3500kg flatbed trailer with loads varying from timber to scrap metal and other vehicles. It also needs to lug the trailer about 1/2 a mile across muddy fields regularly so is fitted with proper tyres. The boot is permanently full of tools, ratchet straps, chain etc and the interior and exterior are always dirty. I think I pretty much use it for what it was built for.

proper all rounder is mine - its my daily drive, laning/off roading most weekends, towing my boat when it needs moving, launching and retrieving boats on the slipway so its always in the sea, takes all the kids, all the shopping to go with the kids, carries engines and outboards in the back. while its doing all that im sat in electric leather seats with air-con and an auto box.

the bodywork is permanently muddy and scratched to bits but the chassis and engine bay is nearly always pressure washed clean and in fantastic condition. dont think any other car could do everythin i need to do and leave me sat in such comfort and without worry!!

mines everday use truck kids to from school me too from work rubbish to tip bit of off roading limo for the misses does everything and more in comfort i keep her clean inside outside and underside thats the truck not the misses she can clean herself

My 200 tdi is used for everything, daily drive going to uni, green laning, moving people and gear, had it 2 or 3 weeks now. It's replaced the series 3 that I've just sold. It's more practical and "fuel effecient". Well more than a series anyway. Normally stays muddy aside from the bits that matter underneath and the seats. Good ole discos!

Jack of all trades - motorway cruiser, family car, mobile skip, towtruck, minibus, mud monster.
it does get cleaned at least once a quarter - sometimes when the Wife comments, but usually when I'm looking for rust on the underside:)

my 300 is purley a toy, used only for laning and rough camping and is modified accordingly. My TD5 is the shiney, perfomance tuned and the long distance motorway muncher, but it runs AT tyres as you never know when you might get tempted!!

Currently the Discovery is used for setting out RTVs so it's a bit of a neglected hack at the moment.

Gonna give it some much needed TLC next month.

mine is used for towing the tin bucket, every day use and as a week end toy, green laneing and off roading
the disco is so bloody versatile ist's unbelieveable.
batterd to fook but still keeps going and going and going

if it breaks, fix it, if it don't break, fix it, if your board, fix it.

simple innit?

i have an MPI ( ok jump on and tell me i'm a coont for buying one ) it's an all rounder , work , skip run , trailer puller , greenlaner , school run etc it does most things a proper discovery would do ...it just does 'em slower !
