Friend had his Discovery Sport stolen last night, thieves broke in for the keys then just rammed his wife's Mini out of the drive with the Disco before driving off in it.

Probably better just to leave the Land Rover on the street, then at least you don't get your other car trashed when the thieves turn up to steal it.

Interestingly when chasing insurance quotes a couple of years ago I was surprised to find that some IC's consider on-street parking a lesser theft risk than a private driveway.
Then of course there are those that insist on a locked garage

A defender was stolen quite locally last year where the thieves drove it through a brick wall to get it out of the garden. If they want it, they’ll have a good go at getting it.

Theft's like this make me fink they want certain parts like the engine and interior, if they damage the outside.

The thieves disabled the GPS on the Discovery but not the telemetry

So my friend can log into the car with his phone and see that it's being driven around somewhere

Not that it's of any actual use in recovering the vehicle

I saw a police thing recently where they had recovered several stolen LRs in shipping containers bound for Africa. They apparently cut them in half and just load the fronts as the engine is worth so much. I noticed all the wheels had been taken off, I think so it was easier to pack them into the containers. It is obv just bits they are after.

I wonder if a main dealer could do somefink remotely to stop the car working.

Turn thd wheels into the kerb or just full lock one way or the other, use two trackers, a 'sacrificial' one and a hidden one
Drop a couple of 'tile' bluetooth trackers in it,
Hide an ignition cut off switch somewhere, fit a disclok, and if possible (on a drive) use a sold secure ground anchor and a sold secure chain and lock around an axle. I also use a ground post on the drive.
If not going to use the car for a while check out winter wheels for caravan security, take one or more wheels off and replace with a big chunk of square or triangular steel with the right bcd drilled , it's unlikely anyone is going to be carrying around a spare set of wheels, a gas axe cutter or angle grinder, and a wiring tester to find hidden switches
I do a lot of this on my caravan, two anchors abd chains all different, safe to say if they're taking it, they have to take my drive with them

Believe these ghost systems are supposed to be very good , where u press a switch / pedal etc a certain number of times etc , alas don’t know if they have learnt to bypass these

At the end of the day and don’t know how true it is but believe if the keyless entry is disabled they can’t steal it using one of their devices , unless it’s lifted of course

seems there are many devices on the market these days , some that have like a Bluetooth card that has to on ur key ring or it won’t start , plus some where u can turn ur cars engine off via ur mobile phone
