This seems to show its only for 300tdi...... .

Mantec website also says the same but says 200tdi is an applicable model which contradicts. As word for word "To fit vehicles with 300tdi, TD5 engines" is the last sentence.

Thoughts ? I just don't want a plastic one. Which it would appear come into the 200tdi (only) or 300TDI/TD5 which makes me think they are not compatible.

So it would appear Mantec don't make metal snorkels for 200tdi ? which certainly doesn't sound right.
 
200 TDI intake is on the left side, 300 etc is on the right. Unless they are trying to say they also do a 200 version? Send them an email to confirm

I rang, they know nothing and will ring back, that was at 9 am this morning.... sweet fa....
Spoke with John Craddock, who also knew nothing.. and said if Mantec have it listed it will fit. Thanks though I didn't realise the intakes were on different sides, that answers my question really :)

I fitted the above Paddock one, at the time when I bought it, it was £69. My thinking was if it gets knocked off while going through the forest etc it will not be a big loss. It's been on there for about four years and still does the job. The metal Mantec one is more than double the cost. If I was doing it again I would probably go for the Plastic Mantec as I think they look better.
 
Interesting, I am thinking plastic will crack and get knackered, however there is a lot to be said for it breaking away and not taking something else with it. I hate plastic in so many ways.. I was thinking metal will dent deform with age.
 
Spoke with Mantec.. at last..

Metal is not a stock item anymore, chap reckons they have sold less than 10 in 5 years... so they would need to manufacture it especially.
 
I got the bog standard steel one from paddocks and the top has rusted through.I did get 4 years out of it and it does rain a lot here! Plastic would last forever here, not much in the way of uv rays to make it brittle.
 
This is ours, which I believe is the one in the link above....it is a 300Tdi (Disco engine conversion)

I am very lucky in that the boss allows me to use the workshop in my spare time as long as I clear up after me and any work I do must be finished before shift starts the next working day, i.e. if I do something and the vehicle is immobile.....it is down to me to get it out of the workshop and tucked in the yard before the next working shift.

So here is where I am, There seems to be a lot of confusion over Snorkels vs Raised air intake when reading sellers websites, lots interchange these words for the same/other devices.

So the snorkel is sealed through and will allow water but a lot of the raised air intakes (Mantec) etc seem to be not sealed sufficiently for water over the fitting and bolting onto the existing wing.

Now the best Snokel would appear to be the Safari Snokel which has a sealed pipe right through to the air intake for 300TDI.. i.e pipework is attached to the Snorkel. However 200tdi fitting isn't the same and is just like Mantecs which bolts to the outside of the normal air intake with a seal which usually leaks.

Some folk are fitting the 300tdi and taking piping over the engine to resolve this ? Thoughts ?
 
Its hardly effort or even difficult. I fitted mine in a couple hours which included removing the entire air intake system up to the turbo. Each piece was sealed using Sikaflex outside the landy then put back in place. Easy way to test is seal it all up, connect everything and start the engine block the top of the snorkel. If it dies then its seal, no air, no water. If it runs theres a leak somewhere.

Mines been fitted for 3 years, since I have been through numerous deep puddles and a small lake a one point (all above board) with no issues of water ingress from the snorkel side.
 
I wasn't complaining about the effort... just that I didn't think it would work. That's a good point about testing... as long as I can test it happy.
