K, got me an air cleaner for the S3 which you can put a snorkel on to properly, LR official parts, number OB1703 . But i'm a tad confused, not sure which way around it goes, which is the outlet and which is the inlet.

Easy way to put it i guess, does the air go in the filter, down the centre then pushed through the oil and up the outsides and out there, or t'other way around. Or, does it actually make a difference? one way or another it goes through the oil. Just waitin for the filter to carb pipe now.....

Tah all

Most filters work by trapping dirt on the outside with clean stuff coming from the middle so that would be my guess!

Maybe next time;) :D

is it a precleaner for the snorkel? your part number doesnt match anything on the net.

I know, had a lookie and cant find it. I'm thinking it might not be a 'series' item, seeing as when i put it on the oil bath filter tray and put the clamp over, its about 3" short. But its defo LR as it has the Genuine Parts sticker on it.

Basically, it is the oil bath filter, but instead of the slit in the top for the air to be pulled through, its a pipe instead. So you can connect the sealed air pipe from the snorlel to it, then the other goes to the carb.

if ya think about it the air has to pass through the filter and then to the engine ... sooo ... if you can see the path it needs to take you should be able to work it out ...

and see if you can google an engine bay picture and see .... worth a try ..

i just had another look at the piccies and i dont think it matters cos it has to go through the filter no matter wich way it goes ....

on the last picture... the one on the right is the intake.

i'm not really sure it matters much to the operation of the filter, but if you tried to connect that one to the engine, then the other one would be pointing in the oposite direction to where you wanted it.

i think she's puttin it on a series so i dont think it matters which way stuff points really... just needs to get it on ...

aye tis going in series. Just bloody lost my clamps wingnut takin it back out to photograph it. bastard! Lets hope i find it, good job its off the road atm

cheers all for the help, havent figured out the best way to do it yet, need to buy the drain pipe and hose yet!

page 25-12 of the manual above shows it clearly and in the photo its the RH tube that goes to raised air intake.

I thought the idea of the oil bath was to draw the dirt and bits into it before getting to the filter helping it keep cleaner longer
