Happy BST all,

Anyone found a neat and innovative way of stopping the dash mat slipping around the dash when cornering? Without Screwing it down, and without using a nasty adhesive that leaves a mess.

I have tried sticky back velcro but it just doesnt stick to the dashboard with the textured dash. Residual polish from cleaning the dash remains even after trying to solvent it and degrease it off.

Any one got any hints or tips or where to get stuff be greatly appreciated!

No, I gave up and used a bit of double sided carpet tape.

I even tried one of those stick to anything silcon pads sold to hold your mobile phone etc. in place whilst you're driving. It worked great on the walnut cubby box lid but refused to stick to the dash. I contacted the seller only to find that he was a fellow Rangie driver who admitted that they didn't work on his either.
 
Mine usually stays put, unless I take a corner so hard that anything which was lying on the seats goes flying as well.

I never use any polish (especially silicon sprays) on my interior though - I usually just wipe over the dash with a damp microfibre cloth, occasionally with a tiny bit of detergent in some steaming hot water.

Personally I've found the less chemicals used, the cleaner it looks - and (usually) avoids the problem of the dash mat flying around the place. Might be worth trying a microfibre cloth to get rid of the polish residue if you haven't already tried.

had the same problem with mine, solved it with 2 small blobs of blu-tack - it's not moved since
 
mine ended up on the floor recently. I think it's something to do with the steering. Been told it was something to do with 'the nut behind the wheel'. I can't find it tho...
 
Guys, thanks for all your replies.

It's sliding even on gentle corner partially due to the wallowing and partially due to me 'cockpit shining' the dash.

There's a video of a P38 racer on youtube, link to follow, where someones put a single DIN pod on top of the dash with a tray on top. Fits perfectly in the recess and from memory I think its got various dials in it and I'm trying to figure out where he got it :)

For now though i'll give carpet tape a go. Thanks for all your suggestions!

If the carpet tape fails try a 3" nail in each corner. That should hold the bugger. :D:D:D
 
Saw no issue supergluing it to the dash... Given that I can't think of any conceivable reason I'd want to remove it...

Most annoying thing about P38s is the lack of cupholders... I've just affixed a couple of cheapo Halfrauds ones to the doors with sticky Velcro...

you don't have cupholders? Under the armrest? Pretty useless IMHO. Too short

I know that this sounds almost anal but the later P38s had slightly deeper cup holders in the cubby box. Not a lot but enough to hold a cup. Mind you, you've still got to be a contortionist to use them whilst you're driving.

I especially like having my drinks exactly where my elbow ends up when selecting gears or operating the handbrake. :)
