hi there folks! Been a while but I'm back into Landy ownership!

Quick question, to increase steering lock at all can I go super skinny tyres on these 16" alloys? Thinking 205 80's? Or will they fall off at the first corner? I am living in Italy and the offroading is great, tracks everywhere and laid back locals. Plus access to my house is via a track with 4 tight turns so thinking if I go skinny and similar diameter I can cut down the steering locks before the tyres hit the radius arms and get a better turning circle.

By the way cars and tyres etc here are expensive! €100 for air con refill and old vitaras from 1994 for €5500 with 214000 on the clock. If anyone fancies driving a lefty out here there's sure to be money to be made!

When our house is up and running and habitable it'd be cool if anyone here wanted to camp and off-road. Although it's a 2 day drive to get down

I believe these are an 8” wide rim from a D2? If so I’ve just put 245x75’s on mine, the range on my particular tyres was 6-8” with 7” being optimal. 205 sounds really narrow but as said check the specs.
 
I'd change wheels to something with an offset, maybe -32, so that the tyres can be kept reasonably wide, but still give you a decent turning circle. In fiture you can choose tyres on tread etc rather than just widths.
 
I knew you guys would come through! Thank you I hadn't even thought of offset or spacers but a good solution. I'll look into that and likely go for the size thats smallest but safe for an 8" width. Will use with a trailer on the land instead of forking out 8000 for a tractor! Will update with pics when complete

Spacers on the front will allow the steering stops to be shortened, increasing steering lock & making the turning circle smaller.
 
Just had a look ( I work for a tyre manufacturer), and a 205 tyre width is too narrow and not recommend on a 8x16 rim according to the ETRTO (European Tyre and Rim Tech. Organisation).
Also worth considering the load index if you're reducing the size of your tyres. You should never reduce the load rating, as this could also create problems with your insurance, especially if you're in an accident that tyres may have caused of influenced.

So what is the width of tyre recommended for that rim?
 
As said my 245x75’s were on the limit for an 8” rim according to the tyre manufacturer. Each tyre is going to have its own specs but I wouldn't imaging it’s going to be less than 245 by much of anything. I am of course assuming they are indeed an 8” rim.

Going on ETRTO, 215 is as narrow as you'd want to go. To go to a 205 section width, maximum rim width is 7.5J.

Yep. I went from 235/70R16 to 245/70R16, we're both at the limit for the 8x16 rims
 
The national tyre equivalency tables do state that 205's are too narrow for 8" rims but they also state that 255's are too wide but Land Rover fit 255 tyres as standard on 8" rims on the D2 (255/65 x 16" & 255/55 x 18").

Equivalency Tables
7,0 Inches 195 mm minimum , 205 or 215 mm ideal, 225 mm maximum.
7,5 Inches 205 mm minimum, 215 or 225 mm ideal , 235 mm maximum.
8,0 Inches 215 mm minimum, 225 or 235 mm ideal , 245 mm maximum.

I don't know about ETRTO, but rim width will depend on profile AND tyre width, not just width.

I suspect ETRTO like most Euro standards is utter BS.
