I'm a bit confused... I'm sure someone can explain the following:

The following web site specs the maximum trailer weight that can be
handled by the Chevy Silverado 2500HD and 3500HD equipped with the
Duramax diesel 6600 V8 engine:

http://www.duramaxdiesel.com/05_trailering/index.htm

The data indicates that the 2500HD model can handle more trailer weight
than the 3500HD model, by a difference of 300 Lbs!! Seems backwards!!
I realize that the engine/transmission is what has to handle the
"combined" weight of the truck and trailer and, since the 3500HD is
heavier than the 2500HD (by 300 Lbs, I would guess!), that would
explain that.
So, the big question: "What is the benefit of the 3500HD"?

Thanks... tj

Do you actually think that GM tow rating are based on any real science?
THe reason for the difference is that GM plucked a number out of the air
for the max GCW rating of their vehicle and the 3500 can wieght a bit
more for that equal a little less trailer weight at same rated GCW. Do
not tkae this rating as set in stone because they are more of a
guideline than anything else because what you can really tow effectively
varies with vehicle and terrain and trailer type as there is no "one
rating fits all" here though some seem to think that there is.
