Hello - I've had my 1968 SII Lightweight for 15 years but only just noticed - derr - that the reason both doors need a slam to shut them is that the section of the upper hinges fixed to the doors has to bend slightly around the door frame, causing the part fixed to the bulkhead to bend outwards. It doesn't seem right. Can anyone explain or tell me it's actually normal behaviour, or confirm that a previous owner has fitted duff parts? Any ideas? Ask my blacksmith to put a bend in them? Thanks in advance to anyone bothering to respond.

Wrong hinges fitted they might need to be swapped over top to bottom or are seizing up.
Adjust the door strikers & hinges also spray wd40 or similar into the door handle mechs
could try & remove the door seals & see if they shut easier.

Thanks very much, kevstar. It's all loose but I can see both parts of the top hinge bending as I pull the door the last two inches to shut. I'll have a think about the top-bottom swap. I have a feeling the hinge part fixed to the door should have a slight bend it to match the one in the piece bolted to the bulkhead, which looks intentional (as opposed to the result of a bash). Do you have one there you can double check for me? I reckon either they should both have a corresponding slight bend, or neither of them. Thanks again.

Good thinking. Thanks. I've tried this. Hopefully you'll see that the lower part is a much thicker metal with what looks like an intentional inward curve - it's exactly the same on the n/s - whilst the hinge on the door is flat as a pancake and you can see it holds the door open about 5" (not 2" as I said before) until you pull it to, when both parts start to bend. Having thought about it, I'm fairly sure my metalworking neighbour could put a corresponding curve in that upper piece (if only I can get the rusted-solid nuts and bolts undone - any tips or techniques gladly received!), but I'm keen to get anyone's views on the reason for this happening. Which bit is wrong, and is it a common situation?

Thanks very much, wireman. It would be brilliant to see a photo of yours from the same sort of angle.
