After misjudging the car's width on the drive home from the dealer last weekend, I was left with a cracked left side mirror on my Series 3. Oops.

Its mounted on the door with an arm going to the center of the mirror. There are two big castle nuts on the door end with a hex socket underneath, and a single nut/clamp business at the back of the mirror.

Dad and I took the mirror assembly apart and taped it up so the glass wouldn't fall out, but we couldn't get the arm off the landy body. As it is set now the mirror is partly obscured by the dashboard, so I wanted to swing it round a bit for a clear view (even clearer when I get new glass in it). Any tips on freeing this end up? Dad reckoned it might be a blowtorch job. Or is the mirror meant to be partly obscured by the dash?

My downloaded Series 3 parts catalogue shows only proper 'wing' mirrors, like shaving mirrors stuck out front.

Also, any ideas on getting new mirror glass? Or shall I just get a new mirror assembly? Or get Defender-style mirrors? Or fit electrically adjustable ones? <joke>

You can see the mirror type here:

you can get them mirrors from paddocks and did you get a free pair of knickers with that hair cut?

That hair was the result of the breeze blowing through the car as I drove it home...

I'm worried that if I buy a mirror from Paddocks that when I look at it it'll just say 'No Image Available':

Series Mirrors

Ah, I love the ridiculously cheap landy parts prices - friend of mine had her nice car wing mirror wanged by some wangers and it cost a fortune to get a new one...

nice S3, very tidy!

i'd highly recomend getting some defender mirrors (unless your wanting to keep it more original), i've had endless greif with my series mirrors, the foookin things were flappin in the breeze at one point!! fanally managed to get them solid with some bodgery with washers and bits of rubber......

i've got some defender mirrors on my other S3 an not had any problems with them, there ace, just the rest of that landy thats buggered :(

My Series III is a year older and has Defender type mirrors. I think your old style series mirrors are probably non original for year and it probably had Defender type when it was new. Paddocks sell the complete mirror with arm pretty cheap.
