The wife an I are running two 4x4s and are looking at reducing our monthly fuel bill (as well as road tax).

She has an 06 Jeep Cherokee, which has been a real pain over the last two years, with repair bills over £2500. There is now an intermittant fault which is causing a reduction in power, so I'm starting to think it is time to get rid.

I have an 06 TD4 HSE Landrover, had it from nearly new and is sweet. The only problem is that it is not really heavy enough to tow our large caravan.

So I am thinking of trading both in and getting a Discovery & small economical car. Neither of our jobs are looking great at the moment so don't want to spend the little savings we have or enter into a large finance arrangement.

From an affordability and style point of view I like the facelift Discovery 2, I have seen a few 2004 low mileage ES and Landmark models. Is this a good choice ? The last thing I need is another 4x4 which is costing a fortune to keep. There are some ravage owners reviews on autotrader which is making me question their reliability. With 40K on the clock it should go on forever, shouldn't it ?

I'd like to hear from owners please.

Kind Regards

Phil.

just bear in mind that disco 2 can get very costly to repair , some parts are very expensive... swings and roundabouts...:)

I have an 03 Td5. It's my workhorse and the family car and gorgeous to look at! Does everything, if you can swallow the diesel consumption that is. Me personally, I couldn't bear not to drive my landy to save a bit of fuel but then I'm hooked!

i have an 03 td5, and i think they are brilliant, but as said before can be a little pricey

I spoke to a customer yesterday that has a 53 plate which she has spent £3000 on in last 3 months and is still spending to cure electrical and gearbox problems. She spent £10k buying it a year ago and said she just wants to get shot and will put through auction at a massive loss just to get rid, never to buy another!

Had my 04 for 2.5 years, small repairs include gearbox pipe cost £58, fuel pressure regulator £118, and just recently ignition barrel siezed repaired with now cost, did jobs myself, now done 104,000 miles, would i sell it on NO FRIGGIN WAY
