I've been asked if i'd like to do a bit of offroading, durrr YES! But i've not got any rear recovery points, does any one have any suggestions? Would a D ring that fits the front bumper fit the back through the x-member? Or would a tow ball be a better option? Anyone done anything different? Thanks for all the other help so far!

I've got a Dixon-Bate tow Ball & Pin.
Works great. Better than just a Tow Ball, as you can put a Shackle through the Pin, so there is no chance of the strap coming off.
It's more likely that you'll use the front ones to be rescued and the rear to pull someone else.
I use the original type D Rings bolted to the front dumb irons, with a 2m long strap, shackled to both of them, so that when towed the pull is split between both chassis rails.

Thanks for that, will be usind the rings and tow ball I think, the strap makes a lot of sense too! Do i need a backing plate for the tow ball/pin? The x-mamber doesnt seem that thick, do you know where would i get one from?

Mine had a plate of sorts already welded on the rear crossmember so wasn't an issue, but I'd imagine a Caravan shop or Chandlery should have a backing plate for a tow hook. I bought my recovery bridle on Fleabay 16 tonne double thickness webbing £12 pukka bit of kit.

there was one on ebay the other day, try yr local breakers most old series have em fitted
