Just a quicky.
Plan on changing all 4 shock on the P38 this weekend. I've had a look on Rave and the job looks fairly straight forward, just thought I would ask if there are any tricks or additional information I should be considering before under taking my weekend task,

Shock replacement is very straightforward. Easiest way to get at rear top bolts is through the wheelarch, wheels off - long extension, big breaker bar - they're pretty tight. 18mm socket IIRC. Don't fully tighten the top bolts on the new ones until you've done the bottom ones up though - or you may find you have to 'bend' the shock to get it in the bottom mount - a bad thing.

Fronts are as easy as can be.

I'm working myself up for doing this soon and found a photo step by step guide on t'internet - but wasn't smart enough to save it. There's one out there somewhere (maybe on here) if that help's.

Clarky's right, I can see the top rear bolts over the top of the chassis and everything looks accessible. The guide made the good point that the EAS pipes and cables run along the top of the chassis, put something in to protect them and be careful especially if they're really really tight! It also suggested the job could be done with the suspension up without removing the wheels.:):)

Oh, And I think 18mm sockets are an unusual size not in a 'compact' set - make sure you've got one or you'll be stuffed before you start!

As Clarky says rear top bolts are super tight. Might be worth a touch of plusgas or similar penitrating spray first. I needed a large breaker bar and a fat bloke to get mine shifted.

92 Ft/lbs on the top ones, and 34 on the bottom ones, if memory serves...

Buy yourself some copper grease/slip to coat the bolts before replacing them, stops them rusting in place for the next time.

Bit of an update, all done with no real issues.
Followed Stuckagainsteves link which was brilliant. Just raised the suspension, didn't have to take any of the wheels off. Only took a couple of hours to do all 4 shocks.
Replaced the old original shocks with a set of Boge units and so far so good. The ride seems much better, a lot less body roll and it seems to have stopped a few of the rattles.
Thanks for all the advice gents, you surpassed yourselves again,

Dave
