I ham trying to refit the front shock absorber on a 2A, I have got it on at the top and the bottom but I cant find a way of compressing the rubber bush enough to get the split pin back in the bottom hole.

Any ideas would be great.

Thanks

Having same issue with my series 3. Have bought two large g clamps thinking that maybe could compress the metal ring against the rubber and push the split pin through.

hopefully will be able to grip the back of the plate attatched to the shock strut and apply enough pressure to the rubber to create a gap. Think it may be slightly optomistic but will keep you posted !!

I was thinking or doing something like that, but the washer is not that big.

What I was thinking of was posibly a piece of tubing to fit over the mount and then use one clamp to compress centraly, obviously there is no way of getting the pin through the hole so I was thinking of cutting a slot in the tube to leave clearence for the split pin to fit through the gap.

Do you think this might work or is there an easyer way?

stuff yer pin in wiff the longer bit towards you.push it through as far as it will go, then using what every comes to hand ,pliers, thin punch, etc turn it round so the long bit is now farthest away from you. now just tap it fully home..
easier to do than explain. but if you think about it you'll understand.

I have tried basicsly that but it is far too tight, once you have managed to get one side in the washer on the other side is fliped out almost past the hole. I then had to push the washer back in thus tightening the otherside up making it nearly inposible to tap in.

a tube with a slit cut into it is the way ive done it.
i also use summat like fairy liquid to lubricate the rubber bush, if it wont go fully home.
