I knew she wouldn't last long.
But alas the Landy has ended in near spectacular fashion, had it not been for my quick reactions.
Traveling along the M5 Southbound approaching junction 1. There's a row of cars doing 45mph approaching the junction, so I overtake, still doing a mere 55mph. Suddenly I felt the power drop. Something was wrong. Instinctively I glanced left, saw a gap and swerved onto the hard shoulder. As soon as I hit the hard shoulder the rear wheels just locked!!! Still doing 45-50mph the Landy just skidded along the hard shoulder to a stop - I somehow kept it in a straight line! The realisation of what had just happened, and what would have happened on the busy motorway had the wheels locked while I was in the middle lane is just too scary to contemplate.
After three hours standing in the snow the AA contractor towed me home.
Transmission or Differential problem I don't know, but it's not rolling anywhere, rear wheels totally locked. Either way my Series III just isn't worth fixing up (chassis is cracked anyway). Got another lined up for a possible part-ex.
So it's the end of the line for another Landy. But my Land Rover days are not yet over.
