Hi,

I have just had the 24,000 mile (2 year) service done on my Discovery Pursuit TD5, manual gearbox.

After the service I queried with the dealer what oil changes had been done. Apart from the main engine the dealer only changed the transfer box oil. He advised me the gearbox oil gets changed at 36,000 miles and the transfer box every 24,000.

My Electronic Workshop Manual on CD states both gearbox and transfer box at 24,000 miles.

My old 300TDi was gearbox every 12,000 miles and tranfer box every 24,000.

Based on the above information, the dealers advise does not seem correct.

Can any body clarify.

Regards

Chris

I'd be inclined to ignore all of it and replace all fluids at 10,000 miles.

Oil takes a lot of punishment, anti-freeze looses its effectiveness with age, brake and clutch fluid is hygroscopic and takes on about 10% water per year.

might seem obsessive but I have always changed all my oils every 6000mls. I cross a few rivers and travel a few green lanes as well as pull a caravan occasionally. Not worth the chance. oil changes approx £60 new engine & box £3000, work it out?
