Hi
Recently had my serpentine belt replaced as the previous one disintergrated (I had seen one of the threads going but it perished in the 300 yards back to my house !)
I have now have a terrible squeak (like a really REALLY angry canary) when the engine is under load. I have done the usual searches and as its a really early disco 1, I understand that there may have been some alignment issues with the tensioner (penny trick??). So I will get that looked at, but oddly since the replacement, I am getting an occasional loss of power and an CHECK ENGINE light coming on.
Could this be related to the belt replacement. It seems too coincidental not to be, but I'm no expert.

Any help would be appreciated

The “penny trick” came about with the old 200 series and their V belts, way before the SERP belt was fitted. The belt disintegrating suggest that it’s an original belt or a poor quality replacement.

I don't have a D1 but I'd remove the belt and see if the squeaking (and the CEL) goes. I would also check that all pulleys turn freely.

Oh dear. You would remove Serpentine belt would u, and run the engine? :(

Very early 300 disco's had a longer belt fitted due to a bigger alternator pulley
In 96 I believe they changed to a smaller pulley and shorter belt.
Maybe fitted the shorter one?
Long one I think is 1590mm
Short one is 1575mm
Big pulley is 61mm
And the small one is 4*mm
The shorter belt will tear apart on the wrong car. Maybe worth checking
Being shorter it may have damaged one of the bearings?
Take the belt off and check bearings doe end play

So - this means V8 then ? ( it would help to know )....

How early 200 series 3.5 or ???

If the D1 engine has a serpentine belt then it must be a 3.9 or 300Tdi or 300Tdi with EDC which like the 3.9 has a dashboard ‘check engine light’.

Yeah, I know - I was going to say the two phrases I quoted are almost mutually exclusive, unless the engine is a retrofit ..... which rules out EDC, which, IMHO would only be retrofitted in some sort of bizarre alternative universeo_O - I thought it better to just ask the question :)
